Is it possible to set up a QROPS myself?
QROPS was introduced as part of the pensions simplification rules initiated by the Government in 2006, but this process is by no means easy to navigate. That is why it is vital to take advice from a professional QROPS specialist.
Transferring a UK pension into a QROPS may not be right for everyone. If you have a Final Salary Pension for example, you might lose certain benefits following a transfer. Again, this is an area where you must take professional advice before making any decisions.
Most QROPS providers will only accept pension transfers via their appointed intermediaries. Even if this was possible, you would find that you would require the services of a professional QROPS adviser as the process involved can be extremely complex.
Please note that not all schemes can be transferred.
The UK State Pension cannot be transferred.
